Safety Lessons From Local Boating Tragedy

The unfortunate accident that took the life of 2 local fisherman, father & son, last week reminds all of us that boating safety practices should never be ignored. Everyday that you are on the water, you must observe the laws in place and use common sense to safely navigate waterways. No matter how many times you have been down this river or that channel, do not let your guard down. Always be ready for the unexpected and unseen dangers. As a boater, you have the responsibility to always be vigilant about safety.

Even if you have been boating for 20 years, it is a good idea to have an up-to-date grasp of the rules and restrictions of the waterway that you are boating on. For more information about boating safety, contact the United States Power Squadron (USPS) The USPS is an educational organization dedicated to making boating safer. They offer Safe Boating courses designed to enrich boating for everyone.

Please ensure that an accident like this one is never repeated and take boating safety seriously.
