Smart Sturgeon Rebelling Against Their Human OppressorsIt seems that evolution has delt the sturgeon of the Suwannee River a winning hand in the battle against humans.
Blake Nicholas Fessenden, 23, was riding a personal watercraft on Sunday when all the sudden he was broad-sided by a 4-foot-long sturgeon. He was knocked unconscious and his girlfriend came to his rescue until another boat stopped to help. EMT's airlifted the hurt man to a local Gainsville hospital where he is recovering from this traumatic incident.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officials have said similar accidents occur once or twice a year on the river and that the fish can jump as high as 8 feet in the air and can weigh as much as 200 lbs.
A representative from the sturgeon species declined to comment, but did provide a written statement that only said "Beware of Flying Sturgeons"
