Coast Guard Rescues Port Orange FishermenTwo Central Florida Fishermen have been rescued by the Coast Guard about 70 miles east of the mouth of St. John's River.
Duane Groves and Robert Christenson were on the 35-foot fishing vessel Biggin', when they encountered rough seas and put out a distress call around 8am Thursday(Nov 16) morning. The Biggin' is a commercial fishing boat owned by King's Seafood of Port Orange.
A Naval aircraft spotted the fishermen's life raft Friday afternoon and a Coast Guard helicopter responded to retrieve them from the ocean.
The Coast Guard said the Biggin' most likely capsized and sank, although no debris has been found off Ponce Inlet, where the distress beacon signal originated from. |
