Round Scad / Cigar Minnow

AKA: Hardtail / Cigarfish / Chuparaco Family: Baitfish

Round Scad / Cigar Minnow
Water: Salt Where: Offshore / Surf
Size: Most common at 6-8 inches, but may reach up to about a foot in size.
Fight: Too small and too weak to consider any gaming qualities, more commonly targetted as a baitfish.
Deliciousness: Used As Bait, Not As Table Fare
Range: Both Coasts Technique: Drifting / Still Fishing
Baits: Chum Tackle: Spinning

The Round Scad makes for a good bait fish when targeting XXXXXXXXXXX.

The Round Scad is characterized by a green to tan topside fading at a breaking lateral line with spots to a lighter underside. His dorasl fin is a bit rounded and overall he is shaped like his name implies, like a cigar.

These fish are found from nearshore waters all the way to the open sea.

Tipped jigs with shrimp or cutbait on a trot line work the best when targeting these fish.
