Redtail Scad / Speedo

AKA: Family: Baitfish

Redtail Scad / Speedo
Water: Salt Where: Offshore / Surf
Size: Most common at 12-14 inches
Fight: Given its small size, a weak fighter and more commoly tagetted as bait rather than a gamefish
Deliciousness: Good, But More Commonly Used As A Baitfish
Range: Both Coasts Technique: Still Fishing
Baits: Chum Tackle: Spinning

The Redtail Scad makes for a good bait fish when targeting XXXXXXXXXXX.

The Redtail Scad is characterized by a green to tan topside fading at a breaking lateral line to a lighter underside. His dorasl fin isn't rounded and overall he is shaped like a cigar with his fins being a definite reddish color.

These fish are found from nearshore waters all the way to the open sea.

Tipped jigs with shrimp or cutbait on a trot line work the best when targeting these fish.
