Gag Specifications


Water: Salt/Coastal Waters Where: Offshore / Inshore
Size: Most common at 2-15 pounds. Large fish are readily caught weighing 20-30 pounds with lunkers reaching upward of 50 pounds in deep water.
Fight: A hard striker with a heavy pull.
Deliciousness: Excellent
Range: Both Coasts Technique: Drifting / Still Fishing / Casting / Trolling
Baits: Baitfish / Crabs / Lures / Flies Tackle: Spinning / Baitcasting / Fly Fishing

The Gag is characterized by his cat like markings that are generally a darker color overlaying a gray to light brown body. He has a noticeable underbite with small tet, a ungulating Dorsal fin and a large unforked tail.

These fish are found in deeper portions of the flats , passess, holes and deeper waters offshore, usaully around some sort of structure.

Live baitfish as well as dead and cut baitfish make for the best natural baits, while jigs, poppers and streamers make for the best artificial bait.
