Swordfish

AKA: Broadbill Swordfish / Pez Espada Family: Billfish

Swordfish
Water: Salt Where: Offshore
Size: Most common at a smaller size, say up to 50 pounds due to overfishing, but lunkers in the area may reach up to 600 or so pounds.
Fight: Will and does jump, maybe not as much as some of his billfish cousins, but ample power and speed makes for long hard runs and a tiring fight.
Deliciousness: Excellent
Range: Both Coasts Technique: Drifting / Trolling
Baits: Baitfish / Squid / Lure Tackle: Spinning

The Swordfish is charracterized bya sleek deep blue to purple upper body fading maurkingly into a lighter underside. He has a tail curved dorsal fin, a wide forked blueish tail and an extremely long bill.

These fish are found in the deep waters far offshore.

Large rigged squid or rigged baitfish are the best natural bait, while streamers, tubes and jigs make for the best artificial bait, a combonation of the two works the best.
