Wahoo Specifications


Water: Salt Where: Offshore
Size: Most common at 10-50 pounds. Pretty common at 80-90 pounds with the lunkers reaching well over 100 pounds.
Fight: Intial strike may be flashy, after that initial show, fight is characterized by fast sharp runs. A speedster with a stubborn mind, especially when drawn to the surface.
Deliciousness: Good If Smoked
Range: Both Coasts Technique: Drifting / Trolling
Baits: Baitfish / Lures / Flies Tackle: Spinning / Baitcasting / Fly Fishing

The Wahoo is characterized by his long, slender and powerful body, with blue or darker tiger stripes along his flank over a white to silvery body. His tail is thin and pointed. His beek is rather long and filled with sharp menacing teeth.

These fish are found in the open deep water, but also can be found in his favorite feeding grounds along dropoofs and weedlines.

Rigged baitfish make for the best natural bait while streamers and jigs make for the best artificial bait, a combination of the two works the best.
