Gulf Toadfish

AKA: Family: Tooth And Spine

Water: Salt/Coastal Waters Where: Surf / Inshore
Size: Most common at under a pound, but large fish may reach a pound or so.
Fight: Has a moderate to good strike but not a fighter or a puller

Baits: Shrimp / Baitfish / Squid Tackle: Spinning

The Gulf Toadfish is characterized by his overall froggy color, ranging from deep green to mottled brown, with darker striped splotches running his flank. There are little spines present at both his head, gill covers and atop his dorsal fin, with all his fins and tail being rounded.

These fish are found along shallower waters, usually hiding in rocks and structures.

These fish prefer cutbait and shrimp pieces as a natural bait, but are not a targeted species by most anglers.
