The Black Bass is characterized by an overal green or darker body, that may have a darker or black splotched stripe running his flank from gills to a large rounded tail. He has an extremely large mouth with a lower jaw that is slighty bigger and underslung than the top. His doral fin is large and spiked, slanting back into his body, before reappearing into a more rounded anterior.
These fish are found along weedlines, pads and most structure throughout fresh waters, sometimes schooling, chasing running baitfish when younger.
Shiners, other fresh water baitfish and earthworms make for the best natural bait while, plastic worms, spoons, jigs and "natural" lures make for the best artificial bait.
The Florida Largemouth is the official state freshwater fish of Florida.
