Longnose Gar

AKA: Garfish / Longnose Family: Gar

Longnose Gar
Water: Fresh Where: Inland
Size: Most common at about 5-15 pounds with large fish reaching around 40 pounds. Has the ability to reach as much as six-feet in length.
Fight: A strong but skinny fish. Has some speed and puts up a good fight due to its size alone.
Deliciousness: Good
Range: Fresh Water Technique: Still Fishing / Casting
Baits: Baitfish / Lures Tackle: Spinning / Baitcasting

The Longnose Gar is characterized by a long slender body, that is green to brown along the topside with a lighter to yellow underside. Along his flank, running from nose to tip of odd shaped tail are brown or black mottled spot or splotches. He nose in larger and longer than that of the Florida Gar.

These fish are found in virtually all of Floridas inland waters.

Live baitfish make for the best natural bait, while the occasional spoon or crankbait may fool this fish and make for the best chance of hooking into with an artificial.
