Central West Region

Gulf Grouper

A little rain does not seem to bother the Grouper! Plenty of Gag and Red Grouper in the area. Dead Threadfin Herring and live Pinfish are both working well with great results. Extended Trips are producing big Red Snapper and 10+ Red Grouper. Spanish Mackerel, Grunts, Mangrove Snapper, Sharks and Kingfish are abundant and fun to catch on light line. Large schools of bait are still moving north ...full report

Hernando Beach Inshore Fishing

Captain Keith Tomlinson

The fishing this past week has been good. The weather has made thing a little challenging though with the wind and spotty thunderstorms. We are definitely into a summer pattern now. The most consistent bite is in the early morning right up until the heat of the day starts. When fishing the many creeks and near shore islands this area of the Nature Coast has to offer I like to use top water plugs ...full report

Gulf Grouper

Summer time Grouper fishing tactics are required to consistently catch fish. We know how, and are ready to show you the tricks of the trade. Plenty of Gag and Red Grouper in the area. Dead Threadfin Herring and live Pinfish are both working well with great results. Spanish Mackerel, Grunts & Mangrove Snapper are abundant and fun to catch on light line . Since large schools of bait are still ...full report

The weather had been what I call, a little squirrelly but now has smoothed out. A light east wind in the morning will make it a lot easier to spot the Tarpon schools running the beaches. This has been an excellent year on the bay for Gray Snapper. The average size is about 14” and a few have been up to 16 and 18 inches. They like to hang out around docks, rocks and bridge fenders. I have found ...full report

Clearwater Area - Inshore And Flats
06/13/09 3:00 PM
Capt Gary Burch

On the morning of May 30th, I fished with Ron and his son Hayden, aboard the Salt Aire. As we headed for our first location, I observed the water temperature had finally reached 83, a normal range for this time of year. I also noticed we would be fishing the bottom half of the outgoing tide. We entered a flat area in Clearwater that was productive five days earlier. Schools of Redfish have been ...full report

Went grouper fishing on the Blue Dolphin yesterday. I caught many a grouper. Problem was they were all short, I kept getting 20, 21 inchers. At the end of the day I think there was about 5 keeper Gags total, 6 mangrove snapper and alot of grunts. I took home two decent mangrove snapper. As always Capt. Mitch and crew of the Blue Dolphin did an awesome job. The Blue Dolphin goes out of the ...full report

the fishing has not been overwhelming in this region the last two weeks. The water temperatures have still remained unusual for this time off year. I will definitley be out and about when the water temps. cool off a little and then im feeling the fish jumping into our boats ...full report

Dunedin Causeway

Snooker_Stotz

When we got to the bait hole the tide was a little higher than we normally like to see it. The bait was holding just right outside of nets reach. We were patient and got bait. Headed out for the Causeway. The wind was ripping pretty good. Forcing us to hits some spots we usually don't. Fishing was slow for the most part. However, we did see a decent snook (upper Slot) by the bridge. Also ...full report

Report From Capt. Ric One Of The Members Of The Reel Simple Fishing Club - Brandendon Area

Brant

Hello Anglers, The time we have been waiting on over the past few months has arrived. Snook season opens on Monday and the big schools of redfish have started their late summer invasion. Tarpon, Shark, Trout, and Mackerel are still on the menu, but Snook being in season and the Redfish deluge will take center stage for several weeks. There are a lot of fish condensed at the mouth of the rivers and ...full report

Sunshine Skyway 8/16
08/30/08 7:14 PM
Brant

We were suppose to be in a tournament on 8/16, but we missed the start time. The tournament was hosted by O'Briens Irish Pub Reel Simple Fishing Club, which I am a member. We went fishing anyway near the Skyway Bridge and we caught trout, a sea bass, snapper. We sat through periods of down pouring of rain, but it was fun. Brant ...full report
