May has been a great month for Redfish. Despite a week of frustrating southeast winds, my clients had a blast catching upper slot Redfish in the backwaters around Jacksonville and St Augustine. There is a ton of bait in the creeks which have the Redfish stuffing themselves with small shrimp, minnows, crabs and Mullet. I've been keeping it simple with mud minnows on a ΒΌ oz jig. Spring has sprung and the fishing is outstanding! Warm, sunny weather has the Redfish and Trout fired up. Lot's of small shrimp, minnows and Mullet have invaded the backwater creek systems here in Northeast Florida. Last week, my good friend Lee Land spent a couple days with me on the water. Large schools of Redfish continue to patrol the backwater creek systems here in Jacksonville. Since the water temperature is cold, the packs of Redfish are usually hunkered down along oyster beds. The fall Flounder run has kicked into high gear along the inland waters of Northeast Florida. Although the water temperature has only dropped a few degrees Flounder are making there yearly October and November migration.
