The water was like glass as we left the ramp this morning in search of Bobbies first "Big Redfish". Amazingly enough there were only a few kayaks out and all seemed to head east from the launch. A short while later we approached the area I had planned on fishing today in preparation for tommorrows charter. My new practice buddy is my wife, who usually does not fish, but enjoys the ride. Our new thing is teaching her to sight cast to tailers and such. As you can imagine this is no easy task being she is not an avid fisherman.
After shutting down and teaching her to read the water,ie tails, we were off!
There! she says! where? 11 o"clock, sure to my surprise she had spotted some tails at , you guessed it 11 o clock I poled her into position to offer her Exude Shrimp(golden bream) rigged weedless on a mustad keeper. Her practice on the dock across the street paid off as she landed the lure 3 feet past and allowed it to fall. One twitch and it was game on After about 7 min she was showing signs of fatigue and quickly brought to the boat for a quick pic!
We then continued to pole the flat where we were greeted with slot sized fish eagerly attacking the exude shrimp. after catching and releasing 7 slot sized fish with several trout to 4 lbs we left them to look for other fish. The water is not cold so get out early, if you wait until 10am, you just may be too late. Temps will be in the 80's this weekend and by 11 am I am usually on the trailer headed home.
Several shorelines on the east side of the Lagoon had plenty of fish tailing and finning up until 10 am. We also had some shots at Black Drum SE corner, but they wanted nothing to do with the plastic.
