Well, it is still warm and it is early February. Water temps are in the low to mid 70’s in the morning, so we have been out before sun up throwing top-water plugs for trout, reds, and even a few snook over the few grassy areas that remain. Top-water in the middle of winter! You have to love that. The most products plugs have been the Yo-Zuri Banana Boat and 3D Popper in the TM color pattern. None of the fish we are catching have been large, but the action has been steady until the sun gets up a bit and things get too bright for the fish. The best action during the rest of the day has been late in the day. We have been having our best luck with Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp in the nite glow color pattern rigged on a 1/8 oz. jig head. We have been targeting the deeper water on the edges of flats and around spoil islands. Pretty typical stuff for winter in central Florida, except it is not cool out, but very warm. As long as the water stays in the 70s or warmer the early morning action should be good! Look for bait around areas still supporting grass or other structure that will hold the larger predators, get out early, and throw smaller top-water plugs for some great action. The type of action you usually have to wait until late spring and summer to get.

Until next time, Tight-Lines to All.

Sincerely,
Capt. Ron Bielefeld
