Captain Jazz

Fishing around Tampa Bay is starting to take off. The water is warming up and baitfish are getting more plentiful.

Drifting the shallow grass flats in 1-4 feet of water, casting jigs in rootbeer or white have been producing Sea Trout from 12-22 inches.

Redfish are hanging near the flat drop-offs on lower water and moving up on the flats as the tide rises. Look for Mullet schools as for places to start. Fishing with artificial or whitebait have been getting fish to the boat. Some days the live stuff has been outstanding.

Snook are starting to move out of the winter hangouts to start their way to the beaches. As the water warms Snook will begin to eat heavily to put on weight for the summer spawn. Night fishing has been getting better and better.

Mackerel are moving back into the area as the pods of bait fish work their way north. Look for diving birds as the sun rises the Mackerel will be around the schools of baitfish. Throwing plugs and jigs have been working out great. I skip using wire and instead 40 pound florocarbon leaders. You may lose some plugs but you'll get more strikes.

See ya on the water,
Captain Jazz
