Crooked Lake
04/22/08 9:27 AM
bahc

Bass Anglers of Hardee County fished their monthly tournament out of the Little Crooked Lake ramp. The pass to Big Crooked is shallow and narrow, several of our guys got stuck on the way through but managed with some effort to get through, stay between the marker poles and keep watching the depth visually, most of all tilt your engine up and come off plane just before the grassy point near the opening going out of Little Crooked and don't try to get up on plane until you are clear of the weed line on the Big Crooked side.

The bite was pretty good with some of our anglers reporting catching up to 30 fish, but most of the fish were in the 1 -1 1/2lb range. Everyone caught a few fish so, I really can't give any pointers as to what they were hitting or where they were, but they do seem to be starting the post spawn pattern and moving toward open water. American Dream Team caught most of their fish on the weed lines near deeper water. The big fish were pretty much non existant. There were 2 other tournaments on the lake this weekend and they were both 2 day tournaments which I think had depleted or spooked the catchable larger fish the previous day.

As far as structure goes this lake has it going on for a Central Florida lake. Brush (dead treees) along the shoreline, lots of grass, quite a few boat docks(But also lots of undeveloped shore line). This is not your typical dinner plate or bowl shaped lake, the lake depth changes frequently.

Go catch a fish!!!!
