Cape Canaveral 20 Mile Buoy & East To 250ft Depth
05/01/08 7:22 PM
Captain TR

Cape Canaveral 4-27-08 - Last Sunday I took a party of 4 off shore. We started trolling 3 miles west of the 20Mile Buoy (41009). We had one knock down but no hook ups. Another charter boat caught a dolphin next to the buoy but we did not have any action so I headed east/southeast from the buoy. I decided to troll from 140ft near the buoy toward the GS. It paid off...at 170ft we had a knock down and I dropped the bait back to hook up a small dolphin (8-10lbs). I only got two lines back in the water when a big bull hit the outside rigger with a white/blue islander on a double hook ballyhood. It was a classic fight. The bull took several runs and when deep by the boat. We finally gaffed it after about a 15min fight - 25lbs bull! We continued to troll that same area (NEVER LEAVE FISH TO FIND FISH!) and the shotgun when off as well as the port riggger. Two passengers fought what we thought were two fish for a while but realized it was the same fish. Double hooked and double gaffed a 35lbs Cow! Continued to troll out to 200ft and had a sail, but pulled the hook and lost another big fish by the boat. Plenty of action and fun all day for all!
