Fort Pierce Florida -Offshore Jensen Beach- Inshore
09/17/08 9:11 AM
smokin em

With kids going back to school, summer vacations coming to an end and the rising costs of fuel it's about time someone gives back a little of what has been given all through the year. September is the month for charter specials aboard Smokin Em Charters. Whether it be Offshore or Inshore we have a discounted rate for the month of September and the fishing is FANTASTIC! Offshore full day charters at $950 aboard the 44' Sportfish Smokin Em! 10% off all Inshore charters aboard the 20' Hewes Smokin Em Too!

Offshore- With winds and seas finally calming down Smokin Em made her first trip back to the offshore fishing grounds on Monday. With all the tropical activity we had the feeling that we would find weedlines and debris once offshore. We made our run to the southern bar and came across numerous rips and pushes in the current. Knowing that we had a full moon working against us we still were very optimistic. We put over a combination of ballyhoo, deep diving plugs, drone spoons and the teasers and started working further off the beach. We hit 90' and came across a weedline that had established on a rip and there was pleney of bait so this looked like a prime area to work for awhile. After trolling 200 yards up the line we saw the first showing of life other than bait with a dorsal fin of a Sailfsih popping up behind one of the baits. He immediately latched on and the battle was on for the next 35 minutes. After a clean release we went back on the troll working the other side of the line and shortly after we had another Sail hooked up, brought to the boat and released. We continued to work the area for the next 45 minutes with no other knockdowns. We started working back to the bar and came across another weedline and immediately had a False Albacore blast one of the long lines on a bird. We got the fish to the boat which was in the 20 pound range and started working the area. We started seeing splashes on the surface near another weedline and went to see what we could find. Much to our suprise we found 15-20 pound Dolphin working baits and we were immediately hooked up. We ended the day with a Cuda and back to the dock.

Inshore- On the Inshore scene Smokin Em Too has been finding Snook, Trout and the occassional Redfish fishing the area of Power Plant Flats and the West Wall of the Indian River. MirroLure MirroDines in chartreuse and DOA Shrimp have been the best producers, however topwater lures and the DOA Big Fish lure has also produced some really large fish at first morning light. Working the shallows of 2' or less at first morning and then deeper waters has been the most productive. Look for bait schools being blasted and come to within casting range and you will find all the fish you want to bend the rod. Snook, Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Bluefish, Tarpon and just about any other Inshore species will be taking their turn running through the baits. September is a great time for the flats, calm waters, good water visibility, few boats and lots of fish taking advantage of the mullet run.
