 | Orlando Bass Fishing Lake Toho
09/23/08 9:41 PM Florida Bass Adventures | Fall is around the corner.....or is it? There are many reports out there that are quite misleading as to what is actually happening on our lakes here in Orlando. One actually makes the claim that here in Orlando shad move shallow and die off in the Fall. Huh? I can hear the folks up North laughing hysterically right now.
It is a shame that in 2008 there is still bad information out there that misleads anglers and keeps them from becoming more educated.
It will not be until early January before water temperatures get anywhere near what is needed for shad to die off. But I'm not even willing to say that ever happens in the state of Florida.
The report also goes on to say that bass are feeding on the shad in the Fall because they are dying off.
Hopefully, you are getting the picture that if shad will not alledgedly die off until January then common sense tells us that the reason bass are feeding on them must be for some other reason than a "die off".
What is happening in Orlando is that water temperatures on any lake that has a feeder creek or current flow are lower than normal for this time of year thanks to all the rain from the hurricanes. This is allowing the bass to become more active throughout the day.
These changes in weather patterns and water temperatures will cause bass and bait to behave as if Fall has already arrived but it is not a situation that will last as water temperatures gradually rise before Fall gets here.
Right now my clients are enjoying some exciting action on live bait and artificial lures with catches ranging from 15 - 30 bass per trip. It is my practice to never divulge fishing areas or lures so if you would like to know more about the bass fishing in Orlando you will have to book a trip. Or you can find the guy who will have you looking for dying shad!
Good Luck,
Steve Boyd
