 | Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

captjoeward | INSHORE There has not been as much wind and rain as last week and the reports from the river have been good. There has been plenty of catch and release Trout action from Bear Point down to Herman's Bay. Top water baits fished early in the morning has been the best bet. I am still getting reports about a good Redfish bite along the docks in Faber Cover. Your best choice of baits will be a live shrimp. The Snook fishing has also been good around the docks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet as well as at the local bridges. Try a live Mullet fished. Remember -- Snook season closes on December 15th. There are plenty of Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish and Jacks around the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in the Turning Basin They are feeding on anything that moves. The bottom fishing has also picked up with good catches of Croakers, Sheepshead and Snapper around just about any structure. Try using a small live shrimp or a piece of squid.
OFFSHORE The Sailfish bite has been good with the fish taking Ballyhoo or a live bait fished in about 100 feet of water and both to the north and south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. I did have reports of some Dolphin action in 160 to 200 feet of water. Most of the fish reported were caught on a Ballyhoo. There is still a steady Kingfish bite in 60 to 80 feet of water and the best bait seems to be a live Mullet. The bottom fishing is also good on the near shore reefs in 18 to 30 feet of water. There has been a lot of Sheepshead, Black Drum, Snapper and grouper and all of them are taking live shrimp or cut baits. Along the beaches there is plenty of Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish and Jacks to keep you busy.
BRAGGING BOARD I got an e-mail and picture from Bonnie Burton about a big Bass her son caught over the Thanksgiving weekend. The family was at the Elli Ray's campground in Branford, Florida when 12 year old Lane Burton caught and released an estimated 9 pound Bass. He caught it on a live bait. This is his biggest Bass to date.
