The weather and seas were about as good as you can ask for on this trip, especially this time of year. This also meant that weekend boating traffic was going to be heavy, especially after a long period of poor offshore weather. We had a father and son who drove down from Indiana Saturday, and arrived in Melbourne 10:00pm Saturday evening, but were still at Port Canaveral before 6:00am Sunday to take advantage of the good weather, before the next system came through as forecast on Monday. It was a 40mph run all the way out and back. We fished Pelican Flats, as we did 2 days before, and even though the fishing was not as good as it was on Friday, it still resulted in a full cooler of fish. The Red Snapper catch was not as good, but they are still being caught....and released. Triggerfish still are plentiful and large. Sea Bass as always are readily avalible. Add a few Lane Snappers to the dozen Triggers and Sea Bass, and it was a very pleasant day. The radio chatter had "Fish Stories" being told all day long, Although most people were talking a good story, they mostly admitted that little action was happening, especially among those trolling. Perhaps it was the High Pressure that was over us this weekend, displacing the low that had been sweeping across the state for so many weeks bringing cold weather and windy conditions. Maybe it was the day before, Saturday, with likely many anglers out wetting lines, or more than likely it was just Fish being Fish, with sometimes the bite being hot, sometimes not! The season for fair weather is hopefully starting, and along with it the spring migration that will bring Cobia, Mahi and others back to our offshore waters.
