May has been a great month for Redfish. Despite a week of frustrating southeast winds, my clients had a blast catching upper slot Redfish in the backwaters around Jacksonville and St Augustine. There is a ton of bait in the creeks which have the Redfish stuffing themselves with small shrimp, minnows, crabs and Mullet. I've been keeping it simple with mud minnows on a ΒΌ oz jig. Cast along the oyster beds, wait a couple seconds for a "thump", set the hook and have fun.
I was fortunate to fish with a few of my favorite clients on Mothers day. Todd, Kelly and Cindy Stacy spent a perfect morning catching and releasing several nice upper slot Redfish. Cindy was treated for Mothers day with 2 Reds in the 26" inch range on light tackle. Good times!
