Summer Bite Tampa Bay
07/22/10 8:58 AM

I have been off the water this week celebrating my 10th Anniversary with the Admiral, aka my wife Jackie. Las Vegas was 112 so regardless of how dry the air is it was just brutally hot.

Central Florida summer time patterns are in full swing with several surprises. Captain Chris Colvin reported Tarpon after Tarpon rolling on the flats off Port Manatee this week. It’s been a superb Tarpon season and it continues like the energizer bunny. Captain Chris also reported a great Trout bite with Jacks and sharks mixed in.

Capt Chris also got into some fast action on juvenile Snook 18-20”. Capt. Chris said the trick was heavy chumming with small White Baits to fire up the Snook. Once the Snook starting popping on the chummies he had his anglers cast free lined White Baits into the area. Doubles were coming.

Captain Little Jim Fesperman of Hook Setting Charters reports a steady Grouper bite inside Tampa Bay trolling deep diving plugs. Captain Jim also reports steady Trout and good Mackerel action on range markers just off St. Pete Beach.

The new hatch of White Baits is getting better by the day and will be prime Snook candy soon. I have several reports of outstanding Trout action at night with the Snook action picking up.
