Hello fellow anglers. What a fun fishing trip with a group of good friends in from Arkansas for a visit and some good ole rod bending action. We met Mr. Rick and 5 of his good friends at the dock at 5 am and loaded with Mangrove Snapper bait and hit the Gulf. We were greeted by calm seas and a slight breeze and the guys were anxious to hit the first spot. After a good boat ride, we hooked to the rig and it was on like Donkey Kong, with the first drop producing a nice 12 pound Mangrove Snapper. From the first drop it was a Chinese fire drill on the boat with double and triple hook ups going on, but a lot of Red Snapper mixed in but they sure make a good tug on the line for the guys. The guys caught plenty of nice fat Mangroves, some Triggerfish mixed in, and one Cobia. Had some big fish eat several 5 and 6 pound Red Snapper on the way up, but we could never turn their head to the rig before they could cut us off. After the bite slowed a little, we made a move to another rig and picked up a few more fish, then decided to go back to the start and try to catch some big fish. We managed 1 nice Amberjack and 2 Triggerfish to round out a perfect day.
So with a fish box to the bursting point we headed the boat north and the guys fired up their party early. They had a blast on the way back to the dock. My friends and I and Capt Ricky had a blast, too. The guys can't wait until next Red Snapper season to make their next trip with me. The final fish count for the day was 39 Mangrove Snapper, 2 Triggerfish, 1 cobia and 1 Amberjack. A great time was had by all and after a round of high fives and hand shakes the guys headed of to tear down Bourbon street.
And as our motto says, RAIN OR SHINE, SLEET OR SNOW, IF YOU COME WE WILL GO!
