Fathers Day Tarpon Fishing Report
06/19/12 6:59 AM
Nomad
Happy Fathers Day to all of the fathers out there and to the mothers that play mother and father. I hope everyone had a great Father Day weekend both on and off the water. Many of us have our fathers to thank for making the time to introduce us to the sport we love. A couple of months ago I lost my father but I still remember him taking me fishing on his days off from work and putting up with me saying "just one more cast" when he was ready to head home. If you're fortunate enough to still have your dad, make it a point to wet a line or take your own kids fishing. Trust me; they will never forget the time spent on the water.

Last week I reported mainly about the fishing offshore. This week not much has changed. There are still a few sailfish in our waters along with some dolphin, kingfish, tunas, bonito, and snapper. The fishing has actually improved a bit from last week. Also closer to shore, tarpon are still around in good numbers both around Government Cut, the beaches, and bridges.

This past weekend I had a chance to fish with a couple of guys looking for their first Miami tarpon. We got off to a bit of a slow start but ended the evening going 2 for 4 one of the fished we released boat side was estimated at about 80 pounds. The anglers had a great time and now can't wait to do it again when they return to Miami.

During the upcoming week it looks like I'll be bottom fishing a couple of days and maybe tarpon fishing once more. Both of these are great options right now if you want to beat the heat. The snapper fishing will consist of mainly yellowtail, mangrove (grey), and mutton snapper. Another viable option is to target dolphin early in the morning before it gets too hot. Dolphin fishing can be hit or miss but we always have the reef and wrecks as a back up plan. I will make it a point to report back in the next week or so.

Well, that's pretty much it for now. If you'd like to get in on the action or have questions just contact me via phone, email, or even a text message. I have several days open and the times are flexible so that we can fish around your schedule. You can also follow some of the action on Facebook.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Orlando Muniz
