Fishing has been a little slow this past week. Still catching bass over submerged hydrilla, but the bite has been shutting down when the sun gets high and bright. Shiners still working for the live bait fisherman. Buzz baits, top water toads and frogs are accounting for a lot of bass early and late in the day,but in the full sun hours, the smart fisherman switches to weedless worms or anything to fish down in the water column. Stick worms (senko type) seem to account for some of the bigger bass. Look for a big change coming after Tropical Storm Debby moves out this week. There has been a little water flowing from the natural streams, but the locks have remained closed and fishing the slowly moving water has been inconsistent. With the potential of inches of more rain and faster moving water, look for feeding bass to move towards the mouths of streams and anywhere there are eddies or breaks in the current. This can be some of the best fishing of the year, so get out and enjoy it while it lasts.
Good luck and good fishing,
Captain Bobby
