Canaveral Banana River No Motor Zone (NMZ)

North of the Cruise Terminals on SR401 is a great place to put in a canoe, kayak or rowboat and slay Redfish, Black Drum, Trout, Snook & Catfish. There are many puffers chewing plastic lure like madness. So, make sure to bring lots of spares.

Created by flooding farm land, this 6,550 acre system is an outstanding producer of Bass, they are strictly catch and release. Other species, catfish, bream, and crappie are just as good fishing, but have no restrictions. Exit I-95 at Fellsmere, go west on CR 512 then right on CR 507, then left on the Fellsmere Grade, along the canal, 6 miles west is the boat launch area.

Lake Dias

A dark, tannin-stained lake with very little vegetation. This 711 acre lake is located about 9 miles north of Deland on US hwy 17. The GFC (Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission) boat ramp is the only way for the public to harness this lakes good bass, bluegill, sunfish and perch angling. Lake George

This large lake (46,000 acres) is an off shoot of th St, Johns River. Alot of vegetation provides habitat for the large and numerous bass and crappie in the lake. Striped Bass are targeted on the east side in the cooler months, with the croaker hole spring being the spot during the warmer months. The jetties (south side) produce good sunshine bass year round.

Lake Loughman

This 600 acre waterway is a unique mix of freshwater flow from the St. Johns River and salt water, flowing from a saltwater spring. Lying just east of the river, this very shallow lake (5 ft at most) is home to a mixed bag os species as well. Fly fisherman come to target shad and herring, while some target panfish, croaker and the likes, while others target bass or grouper (if the conditions are right). Public access can be gained via the ramp off SR 46.

Lake Poinsett

This 5,000 acre shallow lake is the best bass fishing on the St Johns chain south of Lake George. Fish the vegetation and lily for excellent bass fishing, and sunshine bass may be where waters merge in deeper holes. Speck are fished during the cooler months while panfish and the usual suspects are always presnt along the shoreline. Lake Poinsett is west of Cocoa on SR 520.

Lake Sawgrass And Lake Hellen Blazes

Lake Sawgrass (407 acres) and lake Helen Blazes (381 acres) are two small lakes along the st. Johns river. These lakes have had a bout with problematic hydrilla, as of right now, they are under restoration efforts and are really too overgrown to fish and support game.

Playalinda Beach

Part of the Canaveral National Seashore, this beach has to be one of the most pristine places in Florida. Popular for sunbathers and surf fishing, you can expect to catch Whiting, Ladyfish, Blues, Sharks, Catfish and Pompano. The shore is populated with plenty of sand fleas, so you don't even have to bring bait if you don't want to.

St. Johns River

All along this river and its lakes it connects, lake Beresford (800 acres), Lake Woodruff (2,200 acres) and Lake Dexter (1,902 acres) produce excellent catches of largemouth bass, striped bass, sunshine bass, crappie, and bream. Look along runs of vegetation and along structure as this is where the fish hole up. Also look for the mouth of Sringrun creek and Get-Out creek, where the rivers and creeks meet for schooling fish.
