A Stranded Nighttime Fisherman wrote to us:
We moved to Citrus County, Inverness, two years ago and during the daytime I can find great places to fish everywhere. My problem is, I work nights; 12-hour shifts. When I get a "day" off, I have to keep to my "night owl" schedule or I can not function. In South Florida, I could easily satisfy my fishing needs; but, here... I'm lost for getting my needed "fishing fix". I am sure that there are many, many other people who love to fish that are in my same situation.
Is there ANY night access fresh water and/or saltwater areas in our county where we can:
- saltwater shore, pier, or bridge fish
- launch a boat to fish the Gulf... or
- fish freshwater???
Please help...
I could not find any places where night fishing is specifically allowed, but I am sure that with Citrus County being on the Gulf, there are plenty. I did a little research and found out this:

| Ludmilla Lelis of the Orlando Sentinel has a story about the proposed 6-month(possibly to be extended to 1-year) ban on Red Snapper fishing along the Southeast Atlantic coast. The ban is intended to protect Red Snapper from over fishing. Federal officials want public input before the ban goes into effect, possibly as soon as October.
