Tackleman, maybe one of the Captains on here will stop by and give you some more specific and indepth answers to this question, or maybe you could even try to contact one thru the site, but the limited knowledge that i have, has come from other places on the web. First of all, the Charters Insurance..it seems there are many different types of insurance depending on your intent, the important factor to remember is not only are you insuring your vessel, but also your business. And as mentioned there are several "levels" if you will, of insurance (Part Time Charter Coverage, Full Time Charter Coverage, Six-Pack Charters, Jones Act/Paid Crew, Coast Guard Certified Vessels, Bareboat Charters)..... heres a good article that i found explaining these type of coverages http://www.independent.ws/2006/01/charter_boat_in.html

Another thing that you will need to look into is you USCG Captains License - there are many qualifiactions including loggede water time, certification courses, CPR classess ans Drug testing that need to be completes, a good article about this is found here...

Again, hope this helps as I am not exactly sure about the steps or anything else about this, this is just some stuff I located on the web.
